Rose Castle Foundation
in the north of England
October 26-November 3, 2019
Princeton University's Office of Religious Life is sponsoring a Fall Break trip to the Rose Castle Foundation in the north of England from October 26 - November 3, 2019.
Our interfaith group will have a residential experience that will take participants on a journey of encountering difference, engaging through conflict, restoring relationships and reimagining society. The programme will engage deeply with themes of reconciliation, hospitality and conflict, mediation, and forgiveness, investing in leadership development and building a confidence in each participant to return to their own contexts as an equipped reconciler.
The reconciliation programme will be hosted at Glingerbank Estate House in Cumbria and, where possible, will include a site visit to Rose Castle which is currently under refurbishment. Following the programme, the group will have some fun exploring London for the weekend before returning to the US.
Program Objectives
- Encounter: To encounter people from different places and perspectives.
- Engage: To engage deeply with scriptural, theoretical and practical tools to equip participants in addressing key divides they identify within their own contexts.
- Restore: To learn about restorative approaches to conflict, and seek restoration on a personal and community level through reflective sessions on sustainability and well-being.
- Reimagine: To reimagine our role and strategy as reconciling leaders, offering new energy and fresh perspectives towards our communities and societies.
Costs
The Office of Religious Life will subsidize the cost of students’ participation, covering all in-country expenses (with the exception of personal items, etc.). Students are responsible to pay the cost of airfare, which is $600.
Dates
The group departs from Newark Airport at 10:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 26 and returns on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 3.
Kosher, halal, vegetarian and vegan food will be available.
